BPC Instruments AB: BPC Instruments selected as member of the European Biomethane Industrial Partnership to enable increased biogas production in Europe

BPC Instruments AB ("BPC" or the "Company") announces that the Company has been selected as a member of Task Force 3 ("TF3") on "Sustainable potentials for innovative biomass sources" of the Biomethane Industrial Partnership ("BIP"). The objective of the partnership is to support the achievement of the target of 35 billion cubic meters of annual production and use of sustainable biomethane by 2030, set out by the European Commission in early 2022. As a pioneer in feedstock quality analysis and optimization for biogas production, BPC sees excellent business opportunities and significantly increased market potential as the new development trend of investments and policies supports biomethane production and utilization.

The need to scale up biomethane in Europe is more urgent than ever, following the need to reduce dependency on natural gas imports from non-EU sources and address high energy prices, while simultaneously addressing the climate crisis. In early 2022, the European Commission announced in its REPowerEU plan – a target to increase annual EU production and use of sustainable biomethane to 35 billion cubic meters annually by 2030. Equalling ten times more biomethane production than the current level. The Commission also decided on the creation of a Biomethane Industrial Partnership (BIP) in Europe. BIP is an industrial partnership in which European policymakers, industry, and other stakeholders team up intending to support the achievement of the target of 35 billion cubic meters of annual production and use of sustainable biomethane by 2030 and to create the preconditions for a further ramp-up of its biomethane potential towards 2050.

The following five Task Forces have been created:

Task Force 1: National biomethane targets, strategies, and policies

Task Force 2: Accelerated biomethane project development

Task Force 3: Sustainable potentials for innovative biomass sources

Task Force 4: Cost efficiency of biomethane production and grid connection

Task Force 5: Research, Development and Innovation needs

A significant effort is required to collect sustainable biomass feedstock to feed much more biomethane production installations in the coming years. BPC has been selected as a Task Force 3 member to identify the potentials across the EU for innovative biomass sources and explore how to use innovative biomass sources for biomethane production in combination with the utilization of digestate as a biogenic fertilizer for more circular agriculture.

CEO Dr. Jing Liu comments:

"I am very excited about the excellent opportunities for BPC to team up with other European partners and support the achievement of the groundbreaking target of ten-folding the annual European biomethane production and utilization by 2030. There is a clear demand for supplying a huge amount of sustainable biomass feedstock to meet the increased demand for biomethane production – resulting in increased business opportunities for our analytical instruments such as AMPTS® and Gas Endeavour®. These products are currently the top choice of industrial biogas plants, service providers, research institutes, and universities worldwide for optimizing biogas production processes and ensuring stable plant operation by selecting and controlling the quality of receiving biomass feedstock. The new investment and policy support for biogas/biomethane production and utilization in many EU member states will be of great importance for developing the biogas market in the coming years and thus create great business opportunities and increased market potential for BPC’s products in the coming years."
