Camanio Care AB: Camanio Care signs a new distributor for Bestic in Hong Kong

Camanio Care has signed a contract with Kerry Medical Ltd. for distribution of the assistive eating device Bestic. The contract is exclusive, which means that Kerry Medical becomes Camanio Cares exclusive distributor in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is potentially large market for Camanio Care’s eating assistive device Bestic. More than 16% of Hong Kong's population is over 65 years today, and it is estimated that doubling share to 2036.

-       The agreement with Kerry Medical is strategic and completely in line with our ambitions in Hong Kong. We are very excited to become partner with such an established and strong company and we are convinced that Kerry Medical will represent our products in the best possible way. They have a strong and highly experienced team in place that we will collaborate with, says Al Saad Chowdhury, International Sales Representative at Camanio.

Kerry Medical Ltd is a part of the international group Kerry Logistics Ltd, founded in 1981. In March of 2013, Kerry Pharma was established to expand to the medical market, and was during 2016 acquired by Ultronics and was renamed Kerry Medical. Kerry Medical offers complete solutions to pharmaceutical and healthcare companies - from regulatory intelligence to clinical trials, marketing, sales, distribution, logistics and execution. Kerry Medical has several specialized sales teams, working with for example rehabilitation, clinics and hospitals.

The collaboration with Kerry Medical means that the company gains exclusive sales rights to Camanio Cares Product Bestic in Hong Kong.

Growing need for welfare technology in Hong Kong

According to The Center for Health Protection, Hong Kong’s population is getting older. Figures from 2017 show a sharp increase over the past 47 years; an increase from 67.8 years for men and 75.3 years for women, to 81.7 years and 87.7 years in 2017. According to The Census and Statistics Department, a continuous increase in the population is expected. The aging population is believed to grow at an increasing rate, with an expected doubling of the population over the age of 65 during the coming 20 years. This growth entails challenges for the healthcare sector to meet the growing demands for care from the aging population.

Of Hong Kong’s population, close to two in five (36%) are expected to be over 64 in 2043. At the same time, 10% will be 85 or above.

According to the International Monetary Fund, if the situation continues it will by 2050 lead to a 21% drop in GDP and a 10% drop in real GDP per capita. The Hong Kong government has met these facts by focusing on residential and home care services through substantially increasing the financial contribution. Since 1990, healthcare spending has increased by 525% according Hong Kong Domestic Health Accounts, published in 2013.
