(update: more details in the full report)Suntrade is investing in developing an AI-driven platform for optimizing energy storage, electricity trading and flexibility services in the Nordic energy market. In the longer term, the ambition is to use the platform as the foundation for its own aggregator business. The company has initiated a development collaboration with Professor Huixiang Gu and a 12-person Chinese specialist team in artificial intelligence, algorithm development and energy systems. The initial investment amounts to approximately SEK 100,000. The project will subsequently be operated in a separate company together with the Chinese development team.Suntrade expects the application process for the necessary market approvals to take around three months, after which test operations are planned. The company views the initiative as a step toward complementing its energy storage operations with AI-based software and energy services. An initial so-called Proof of Concept, PoC, is planned, and the aim is to have the first concrete results and experiences in place before the end of 2026, CEO Daniel Hedström tells Finwire. If the outcome is in line with the company's expectations, Suntrade believes that an initial AI-driven revenue stream can be established as early as the first quarter of 2027.Initial revenues are expected to be limited and to come from electricity trading in the Swedish market. Thereafter, the ambition is to scale the platform to more markets and use cases, which according to the company could broaden revenue streams and improve profitability.
