"It is a great honor to be recognized among the world leaders in cellulosic ethanol production and industrialization," says Jan Lindstedt, Senior Project Manager at SEKAB E-Technology. "This award shows that we are on the right track and we will continue to seek partners and potential customers worldwide for further commercialization of our know how and technology".
SEKAB works in close cooperation with the auto industry and was also the
winner of the Sustainable Bioethanol Award at the 2009 World Biofuels Markets Conference and Exhibition in Brussels. SEKAB was an important actor in the development of the European E85 market and is the only global developer of ethanol for heavy vehicles. They are also one of the leading European provider of green chemicals.
Taurus Energy AB is among the recognized world leaders in pentose yeast fermentation technology, working in close collaboration with researchers from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg and the Department of Chemical Engineering, Lund University, Sweden. The recent successful demonstration of their latest 2nd generation yeast strain, the Taurus04, at an industrial size scale was the result of a 2-year development project with SEKAB and, before that, many years of research in the lab.
"We are delighted to share this award with SEKAB," says Lars Welin, CEO of Taurus Energy. "Our development work won't stop here. We are continuing to refine our many patented yeast strains to accommodate all types of cellulose based renewable feed-stock options and make them available through license agreements worldwide. Already we have several potential partners from both Europe and the United States looking at our technologies."
The potential market for successful commercialization is huge. To replace the first 10% of gasoline and diesel which, only in Europe corresponds to 500 ethanol plants with an annual capacity of 140 000 cubic meters (37 million US gallons). The European market constitutes some 15% of the world market. This clearly implies a need for many technologies and also technology suppliers.
