The Agreement with the European company involves both an MTA (material transfer agreement) and an NDA (non-disclosure agreement). The company works with process optimisation, and is aiming to find the best yeast strain for its process, which is most suited to the selected hydrolysate. "Under the Agreement, our partner will send us various hydrolysates for testing. In the event of successful outcomes, we will continue the tests at our partners' own plants. The aim is to conclude a Delivery Agreement for the supply of our yeast for their processes", says Lars Welin, CEO of Taurus Energy . The second Agreement, which also involves an MTA and an NDA component, has been signed with a company operating primarily in the USA. The company is one of the largest involved in the development and supply of technology for the ethanol industry. "The Company is working to develop the best technical solutions for ethanol production processes, and is looking for the optimal yeast strain for various hydrolysates. Initially, we will send our yeast strain to our partner for the first tests", says Lars Welin. The yeast strains which Taurus Energy will send to its partner in the USA are free from ampicillin resistance genes, in compliance with the US regulations on industrial microorganisms. "We have eliminated the ampicillin resistance gene from our yeast, and, after intensive development work, we believe that we have now regained good fermentability", says Lars Welin. The method generates major environmental benefits, with the production cost of ethanol cut drastically compared with existing methods.
